Know the rules

Mississippi Rules for Moving a Mobile Home

Four Mississippi requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

Licensed installer and transporter

Mississippi’s State Fire Marshal’s Office requires installers and transporters of manufactured homes to complete state training, be certified and hold a license. Our crew holds that license for both moving and setup.

State inspection before move-in

Homes installed in Mississippi since July 1, 2009 are inspected by the State Fire Marshal’s Office before the owner moves in. The fee is $160, and a color-coded sticker goes next to the HUD plate once the home passes.

72-hour paperwork and power

The installer must send the Certificate of Inspection and a Property Locator Checklist within 72 hours of installation. Inspections are scheduled three to five business days later, and some local officials hold the power connection until the home passes. We file it all.

Wind Zone II on the Coast

Under 24 CFR 3280.305, George, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River and Stone counties are in HUD’s Wind Zone II. A home placed there must be built for that zone, so we check its data plate before we quote.

Mississippi paperwork

Who Does What in a Mississippi Move

In Mississippi, most of the paperwork sits with the licensed installer. Here’s the split.

1. Prepare the site

Make sure the new site drains water away from the home. We’ll check it.

2. Local approvals

Check whether your city or county needs a building permit. We’ll confirm before move day.

3. We move the home

MDOT oversize permits and escorts for the route, handled by our licensed transporters.

4. Setup and inspection

We set the home, file the 72-hour forms and schedule the State Fire Marshal inspection.

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost to Move a Mobile Home in Mississippi?

Most of our moves cost between $2,000 and $15,000. For a Mississippi move, the price mostly depends on:

  • Home size: double- and triple-wides need more trucks and a split and rejoin.
  • Distance: across the county costs less than Gulfport to Southaven, or out of state.
  • Permits and escorts: MDOT permits, escorts for wider homes and the $160 state inspection.
  • Site access: soft ground, rural roads and tight parks.
  • Setup scope: blocking, leveling, Wind Zone II anchoring on the Coast, utilities and skirting.
