Know the rules
Texas Rules for Moving a Mobile Home
Four Texas requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.
Licensed, bonded installer
According to a TDHCA Manufactured Housing Division bulletin, only a bonded and licensed installer can install or re-level a manufactured home in Texas. We hold that license.
Notice of installation
The same bulletin requires the installer to file a Notice of Installation (Form T) with TDHCA within 7 days of finishing the job. That timing lets state inspectors check the home with utilities connected but before it’s skirted. We file it.
Relocation paperwork
When a home is relocated, a copy of the moving permit and an Application for Statement of Ownership must be submitted to TDHCA within 60 days. We give you the permit copy and tell you what to file.
TxDMV single-trip permit
Under 43 TAC § 219.14, oversize homes need a TxDMV permit, issued to TDHCA-registered installers and retailers or registered motor carriers. It covers one continuous move of up to 5 days on a set route, and TxDMV doesn’t allow manufactured housing moves on national holidays. We get the permit.
Texas paperwork
Who Does What in a Texas Move
Most of the paperwork in a Texas move is ours. Here’s the split.
1. Title and taxes
Have your ownership paperwork ready and check with your county tax office about any taxes due.
2. We get the road permit
A TxDMV single-trip permit with the route set from origin to destination.
3. Licensed setup and Form T
We install the home and file the Notice of Installation within 7 days.
4. Statement of ownership
Within 60 days, the moving permit copy and an ownership application go to TDHCA. We tell you exactly what to send.

Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Move a Mobile Home in Texas?
Most of our moves cost between $2,000 and $15,000. For a Texas move, the price mostly depends on:
- Home size: double- and triple-wides need more trucks and a split and rejoin.
- Distance: across the county costs less than El Paso to Houston, or out of state.
- Permits and escorts: TxDMV permits, and escorts for wider homes.
- Site access: tight parks in the metros, caliche ranch roads, or soft Gulf Coast ground.
- Setup scope: blocking, leveling, anchoring, utilities and skirting.
