Know the rules

Georgia Rules for Moving a Mobile Home

Four Georgia requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

Location permit and decal

Under Georgia Department of Revenue rule 560-11-9-.04, mobile home owners get a location permit each year from the county tax commissioner, shown by a decal on the home. The permit isn’t issued until all taxes, interest and penalties are paid. Make sure it’s current before a move.

Licensed installer

Under Safety Fire Commissioner rule 120-3-7, every installer must hold a license from the Safety Fire Commissioner before installing new or used homes. A transporter may only do temporary blocking to stabilize the home; anything more counts as installation. Our installers are licensed.

State installation permit

The same rule requires the licensed installer to buy an installation permit before setup. A temporary permit is displayed on the first day of installation, and the permit goes on the home’s panel box when the job is done.

Escorts for wide homes

Under GDOT rule 672-2-.06, loads over 12 feet up to 14 feet 8 inches need a front escort and a rear escort with amber lights on two-lane roads, or a rear escort on four-lane roads. Up to 16 feet, it’s front and rear escorts on two-lane roads. Wider loads are set case by case and may need police.

Who Does What in a Georgia Move

In Georgia, the tax decal comes first. Here’s the split.

1. Pay the taxes

Pay all taxes due on the home with the county tax commissioner.

2. Location permit

Make sure the year’s location permit decal is current and on the home.

3. We get the permits

GDOT oversize permits and escorts, plus the state installation permit.

4. Licensed setup

Our licensed installers set the home and post the installation permit.

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost to Move a Mobile Home in Georgia?

Most of our moves cost between $2,000 and $15,000. For a Georgia move, the price mostly depends on:

  • Home size: double- and triple-wides need more trucks and a split and rejoin.
  • Distance: across the county costs less than Dalton to Savannah, or out of state.
  • Permits and escorts: GDOT permits and escorts for wider homes.
  • Site access: red-clay lots, mountain roads up north and tight parks.
  • Setup scope: blocking, leveling, anchoring, utilities and skirting.

FAQ

Georgia Mobile Home Moving FAQs

Do I need a permit to move a mobile home in Georgia?

Yes. Homes wider than legal limits need a GDOT oversize permit, and setup at the new site needs a state installation permit bought by a licensed installer. We handle both.

What is a mobile home location permit in Georgia?

It’s a yearly permit from the county tax commissioner, shown by a decal on the home. It’s issued only after all taxes, interest and penalties are paid.

Who can install a manufactured home in Georgia?

Only an installer licensed by the Georgia Safety Fire Commissioner. A transporter can do temporary blocking only. Our installers are licensed.

When does a mobile home need an escort in Georgia?

Over 12 feet wide, a front escort and a rear escort with amber lights on two-lane roads, or a rear escort on four-lane roads. Over 16 feet, GDOT decides case by case.

How much does it cost to move a mobile home in Georgia?

Most of our moves cost $2,000 to $15,000. The price depends on home size, distance, permits and escorts, site access and how much setup you need. Your quote is free.

Do you move mobile homes in Atlanta?

Yes. We move manufactured homes across Metro Atlanta and the rest of Georgia, including Macon, Augusta, Savannah and Columbus.

How long does it take to move a mobile home in Georgia?

Most single-wides move within a day once the permits are ready. Double-wides and long hauls take longer, and setup usually adds a few days.

Can you move my home into or out of Georgia?

Yes. We move homes between Georgia and Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and beyond, and we get the permits for every state on the route.
