Know the rules

Alabama Rules for Moving a Mobile Home in Jasper

Four requirements shape every move in and around Walker County. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

County move permit

Under Alabama Department of Revenue rule 810-4-2-.09, a manufactured home can’t move on Alabama highways without a move permit from the county office that handles manufactured home registration. It costs $10 per home, is valid 14 days and is issued only after taxes and the registration fee are paid.

No permit, no move

The same rule makes moving without a permit a Class C misdemeanor, with a fine of at least $50, and any Alabama officer can write the ticket. A copy of the permit goes to the destination county. We carry it on every move.

Certified installer and decal

The Alabama Manufactured Housing Commission requires every manufactured home in Alabama to be installed by an AMHC certified installer. The installer puts a state decal on the home before installation begins. Our installers are certified.

Escorts for wide homes

Under Ala. Admin. Code 450-3-1-.05, loads 12 to 14 feet wide need one escort, in front on two-lane roads and behind on multi-lane roads. Loads wider than 14 feet need escorts in front and behind on every road.

Who Does What in a Jasper Move

In Alabama, the tax step comes first. Here’s the split.

Pay the property tax and current registration on the home at the Walker County office.

2. Move permit

The county issues the $10 move permit once taxes are paid. We can get it as your mover.

3. We get the route permits

ALDOT oversize permits and escorts for the route.

4. Certified setup

Our AMHC certified installers set the home and place the state decal.
