Know the rules

Washington Rules for Moving a Mobile Home

Four Washington requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

Special moving permit

Under RCW 46.44.170, anyone moving a mobile home on Washington public highways needs a special permit from WSDOT or the local authority. We get it.

Treasurer endorsement and decal

The same law says the permit isn’t valid until the county treasurer endorses it or attaches a certificate showing liens and delinquent property taxes are paid, and the home must display a decal. The owner or their agent gets both before the move. Homes entering Washington are exempt.

Pre-1976 homes

RCW 46.44.170 adds a rule for older homes: a mobile home built before 1976 needs an L&I fire safety inspection certification, or an approved affidavit, before it can be moved. We’ll tell you which applies to your home.

Certified installer

Under RCW 43.22A.040, Washington issues certificates of manufactured home installation to installers who complete training and an exam after supervised experience. Our installers hold that certification.

2. Endorsement and decal

Get the treasurer’s endorsement and the decal from your county. We can act as your agent.

3. We get the special permit

The WSDOT or local special permit for the route.

4. Certified setup

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost to Move a Mobile Home in Washington?

Most of our moves cost between $2,000 and $15,000. For a Washington move, the price mostly depends on:

  • Home size: double- and triple-wides need more trucks and a split and rejoin.
  • Distance: across the county costs less than Tacoma to Spokane over the Cascades, or out of state.
  • Permits and escorts: special permits, and escorts for wider homes.
  • Site access: wet ground west of the mountains, tight parks and steep drives.
  • Setup scope: blocking, leveling, anchoring, utilities and skirting.

FAQ

Washington Mobile Home Moving FAQs

Do I need a permit to move a mobile home in Washington?

Yes. Moving a mobile home on public highways needs a special permit from WSDOT or the local authority, and for homes assessed for property tax, the county treasurer must endorse it. We get the permit.

What is the treasurer endorsement and decal?

The county treasurer endorses the permit, or attaches a certificate, showing liens and delinquent property taxes are paid, and the home displays a decal during the move. The owner or their agent arranges both. Homes entering Washington are exempt.

Can a pre-1976 mobile home be moved in Washington?

Yes, with the right paperwork. It needs an L&I fire safety inspection certification or one of the affidavits the law allows before it can be moved.

Who can install a manufactured home in Washington?

Washington certifies manufactured home installers after training, an exam and supervised experience. Our installers hold that certification.

How much does it cost to move a mobile home in Washington?

Most of our moves cost $2,000 to $15,000. The price depends on home size, distance, permits and escorts, site access and how much setup you need. Your quote is free.

Do you move mobile homes in Tacoma?

Yes. We move manufactured homes around Tacoma, Puyallup, Lakewood and Spanaway, and across all of Washington State.

How long does it take to move a mobile home in Washington?

Most single-wides move within a day once the endorsement and permit are ready. Double-wides and moves over the Cascades take longer. Setup usually adds a few days.

Can you move my home into or out of Washington?

Yes. We move homes between Washington and Oregon, Idaho, Montana and beyond, and we get the permits for every state on the route.
