Know the rules

Nevada Rules for Moving a Mobile Home

Four Nevada requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

Assessor’s trip permit

Under NRS 489.621, anyone moving a manufactured or mobile home on a Nevada road must first get a trip permit from the assessor of the county it’s leaving. You’ll need proof of ownership and proof that the property taxes for the full year are paid. The permit costs $5 per section and is good for up to 5 working days.

Division license

Under NRS 489.311, dealers and the servicepersons who work on manufactured homes need a license from the state Manufactured Housing Division. Even bidding on the work without one isn’t allowed. We hold that license.

Installation inspection

Under NRS 489.287, installation and tie-down are inspected by the city or county building department with the division’s approval, or by the division itself. We meet the inspector and make sure the setup passes.

Oversize permits

Under NAC 484D.690, homes over 14 feet and up to 16 feet wide, eaves included, can move under permit. Speed is capped at 55 miles per hour, homes on the same route stay at least 1,000 feet apart, and the permit is void for homes over 80 feet long. We plan the route and the convoy.

Who Does What in a Nevada Move

In Nevada, the move starts at the county assessor’s office. Here’s the split.

1. Pay the taxes

Pay the property taxes for the full year before the move.

2. Trip permit

Get the trip permit from the assessor in the county the home is leaving. We’ll time it to the move date.

3. We get the road permits

State oversize permits and any local approvals for the route.

4. Licensed setup and inspection

We install and tie down the home and meet the inspector.

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost to Move a Mobile Home in Nevada?

Most of our moves cost between $2,000 and $15,000. For a Nevada move, the price mostly depends on:

  • Home size: double- and triple-wides need more trucks and a split and rejoin.
  • Distance: across the valley costs less than Las Vegas to Reno, or out of state.
  • Permits and escorts: state and local permits, and escorts for wider homes.
  • Site access: tight parks in the cities, or desert and ranch sites off dirt roads.
  • Setup scope: blocking, leveling, tie-downs, utilities and skirting.

FAQ

Nevada Mobile Home Moving FAQs

Do I need a permit to move a mobile home in Nevada?

Yes. Before a home moves on any Nevada road, you need a trip permit from the assessor of the county it’s leaving. Wider homes also need a state oversize permit. We handle the oversize permits.

What do I need for the trip permit?

Proof of ownership and proof that the property taxes for the full year are paid. The permit costs $5 per section and is good for up to 5 consecutive working days, so we time it to the move.

Who can install a manufactured home in Nevada?

The work has to be done by a business licensed by the Nevada Manufactured Housing Division, and installation and tie-down are inspected. Our crew holds that license.

How wide a home can be moved in Nevada?

Homes over 14 feet and up to 16 feet wide, including eaves, can move under permit. The permit is void for homes over 80 feet long. Larger homes are moved in sections and rejoined.

How much does it cost to move a mobile home in Nevada?

Most of our moves cost $2,000 to $15,000. The price depends on home size, distance, permits and escorts, site access and how much setup you need. Your quote is free.

Do you move mobile homes in Las Vegas and Reno?

Yes. We move homes across the Las Vegas Valley and the Reno–Sparks area, between the two, and to anywhere in Nevada or out of state.

How long does it take to move a mobile home in Nevada?

Most single-wides move within a day once permits are ready. Double-wides take longer because the sections are split, moved and rejoined. Setup and inspection usually add a few days.

Can you move my home into or out of Nevada?

Yes. We move homes between Nevada and California, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Idaho and beyond. Leaving Nevada starts with the assessor’s trip permit, and we get the permits for every state on the route.
