New Jersey Rules for Moving a Mobile Home
Four New Jersey requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.
HUD-licensed installer
New Jersey is one of the states where HUD administers installation, so installers need a HUD manufactured home installer license under 24 CFR Part 3286. We hold that license.
Oversize home permits
Under N.J.A.C. 13:18-1.16, a manufactured home up to 16 feet wide can be permitted if it meets HUD standards. Homes over 14 feet wide travel on a low-bed trailer or dolly wheels, homes over 12 feet need two sway control devices, and the tow truck has to meet set capacity rules. Our equipment does.
Warning signs and escorts
Under N.J.A.C. 13:18-1.13, oversize loads carry yellow “WIDE LOAD” or “OVERSIZE LOAD” signs at least 6 feet by 1 foot, placed on the load or its escort vehicles depending on how many escorts the permit calls for. We supply both.
Local construction permit
Under New Jersey’s Uniform Construction Code, on-site work like foundations and utility hookups generally needs a permit and inspection from your town’s construction office. Check with your town early. We’ll tell you what they usually ask for.
