Know the rules

Rules for Moving a Mobile Home in Huntsville

Four requirements shape every move in and around Madison County. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

Madison County move permit

The Madison County License Department issues the move permit needed before a manufactured home travels on Alabama highways. It’s $10 per home, each module’s permit is valid for 14 days, and you’ll need proof that property taxes or the current registration are paid. Moving without one is a Class C misdemeanor with a fine of at least $50.

Local setup inspection

Setup requirements and fees depend on where the home lands: the City of Huntsville, the City of Madison or the Madison County Inspection Department. We check with the right office before move day.

Certified installer and decal

The Alabama Manufactured Housing Commission requires every manufactured home in Alabama to be installed by an AMHC certified installer. The installer puts a state decal on the home before installation begins. Our installers are certified.

Escorts for wide homes

Under Ala. Admin. Code 450-3-1-.05, loads 12 to 14 feet wide need one escort, in front on two-lane roads and behind on multi-lane roads. Loads wider than 14 feet need escorts in front and behind on every road.
