Know the rules

Rules for Moving a Mobile Home in Fairhope

Four requirements shape every move in and around Baldwin County. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

County move permit

Under Alabama Department of Revenue rule 810-4-2-.09, the county office that handles manufactured home registration issues the move permit. It’s $10 per home, each module’s permit is valid for 14 days, and you’ll need proof that property taxes and registration are paid. A copy goes to the county where the home is headed. Moving without one is a Class C misdemeanor with a fine of at least $50.

Baldwin County permit and decal

In Baldwin County, the Probate Judge’s Office issues the $10 move permit. Decals come from the Revenue Commission if you own the land, or the Probate Office if you rent it. Register within 30 days of buying, and an improperly displayed decal can bring a $15 citation, plus $24 if it isn’t paid within 15 days.

Certified installer and decal

The Alabama Manufactured Housing Commission requires every manufactured home in Alabama to be installed by an AMHC certified installer. The installer puts a state decal on the home before installation begins. Our installers are certified.

Escorts for wide homes

Under Ala. Admin. Code 450-3-1-.05, loads 12 to 14 feet wide need one escort, in front on two-lane roads and behind on multi-lane roads. Loads wider than 14 feet need escorts in front and behind on every road.
