Know the rules

Arkansas Rules for Moving a Mobile Home

Four Arkansas requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

Licensed installer

Under the Arkansas Manufactured Home Commission rules, no one may act as an installer of manufactured homes without a Commission license. New licensees have their first installations inspected before the license becomes final. We hold that license.

Anchoring and used-home standards

The same rules make anchoring mandatory for every manufactured home installed in Arkansas. Used homes, which includes most moves, must be installed and anchored to the Commission’s own specifications. The Commission can also run compliance inspections without notice.

ArDOT special permits

Under ArDOT’s oversize permit rules, homes wider than 8 feet need a special permit for each move. No permit is issued for a home wider than 18 feet, and homes over 16'6" need an emergency permit and can only move between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wider homes also need escorts. We get the permits and escorts.

Travel times

Manufactured homes can’t be moved on Sundays, major holidays or at night. Homes over 12 feet wide stay off two-lane highways from 7 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. on weekdays outside mid-June to mid-August, and permits aren’t valid in poor visibility or bad weather. We plan around all of it.

3. We get the road permits

An ArDOT special permit for the move, plus escorts where needed.
