Know the rules
West Virginia Rules for Moving a Mobile Home
Four West Virginia requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.
State manufactured housing license
Under W. Va. Code §21-9-9, no one can do business as a manufactured home contractor without a state license. Under §21-9-2, contractor work includes the foundation, positioning, blocking, leveling and tying down the home, and transporting it to the site unless a PSC-regulated motor carrier does the hauling. We hold that license.
Complaint help from the state board
Under §21-9-11a of the same law, the state board inspects a home within 60 days of a written complaint where feasible. Contractors who move homes must give buyers written notice of the board’s help. We give you that notice.
WVDOH mobile home permits
Under the WVDOH permit rules, homes up to 14 feet wide can travel on a blanket permit and homes up to 16 feet on a single-trip permit, valid 10 days. Homes over 16 feet wide aren’t allowed. We get the permit and any escorts.
Travel times
Homes up to 14 feet wide move sunrise to sunset on weekdays and until noon Saturday. Homes over 14 feet move sunrise to sunset Monday to Thursday and until 3 p.m. Friday. No moves on holidays. We plan around these windows.
West Virginia paperwork
Who Does What in a West Virginia Move

1. Title and taxes
Have your title ready and check with your county sheriff’s tax office about any taxes due.
2. Local placement
Check what your county or city needs at the new site. We’ll tell you what to ask.
3. We get the road permits
WVDOH mobile home permits, escorts and the right travel window.
4. Licensed setup
We install the home and give you the state board notice.
