Indiana Rules for Moving a Mobile Home
Four Indiana requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.
County treasurer’s moving permit
Under IC 6-1.1-7-10, a mobile home can’t be moved without a permit from the county treasurer, which the owner or the owner’s agent gets. It’s issued only after taxes and other amounts due are paid and you show the title or a BMV affidavit. It expires after 90 days.
Licensed installer
Under IC 25-23.7-5-1, no one may install a manufactured home in Indiana without a state installer license. Helpers must work under a licensed installer’s direct supervision. Our installers are licensed.
Travel days and hours
Under Indiana’s oversize permit provisions (Form M-204), permitted mobile homes travel Monday to Friday from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset, and Saturday until noon. Holiday travel stops at noon on the last weekday before the holiday.
Escorts and lights
The same provisions require escorts for loads over 12 feet 4 inches wide. From 14 feet 4 inches to 17 feet, that means one rear escort on divided highways and escorts front and rear on other roads. Homes 12 feet 4 inches or wider also need four amber flashing lights.

FAQ
Indiana Mobile Home Moving FAQs
