Know the rules

Idaho Rules for Moving a Mobile Home

Four Idaho requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

Installation tag and permit

Under Idaho Code § 44-2202, the owner or installer must get an installation tag and permit before a home is installed for living in. Where there’s no approved local program, the DOPL installation permit costs $150 for a single section, $200 for a double and $250 for three or more. We get it.

Licensed installer

The same law says the installer’s license must be in effect when the permit is applied for, and a licensed installer must inspect the finished installation against the standard and give the homeowner a copy. Our installers hold Idaho licenses.

New and used homes

Idaho sets up new homes to the manufacturer’s installation instructions and used homes to the Idaho Manufactured Home Installation Standard. Older homes often need more blocking and repairs, and we’ll tell you before we quote.

Oversize transport permit

Homes wider than legal limits move under an Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) overlegal permit, with oversize signs and pilot cars where the route calls for them. On many two-lane routes, wide loads travel in daylight only and not on weekends.

Idaho paperwork

Who Does What in an Idaho Move

In Idaho, the county tax step comes first. Here’s the split.

1. Pay the taxes

Prepay the year’s property taxes and tell the county assessor where the home is going.

2. Bring the receipt

Keep the tax receipt for us. Counties such as Kootenai expect the mover to see it.

3. We get the permits

The ITD overlegal permit for the route and the installation tag and permit for the new site.

4. Licensed setup

Our licensed installers set the home and complete the required inspection.

FAQ

Idaho Mobile Home Moving FAQs

Do I need a permit to move a mobile home in Idaho?

Yes, usually two. Homes wider than legal limits need an ITD overlegal permit to travel, and Idaho Code § 44-2202 requires an installation tag and permit before the home is set up for living in. We get both.

How much is a manufactured home installation permit in Idaho?

Where DOPL issues the permit, it costs $150 for a single section, $200 for a double and $250 for three or more sections. Where a local building department runs the program, its own fee applies.

Do I have to pay property taxes before moving a mobile home in Idaho?

Plan on it. Counties such as Kootenai require the year’s taxes to be prepaid and the new location given to the assessor, and the mover will ask for the receipt.

Who can install a manufactured home in Idaho?

A licensed Idaho manufactured home installer. The license must be active when the permit is applied for, and a licensed installer must inspect the finished installation. Our installers hold Idaho licenses.

Do you re-level double-wides in Coeur d’Alene?

Yes. We re-level and re-block single- and double-wide homes around Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and the rest of North Idaho, as well as statewide.

How much does it cost to move a mobile home in Idaho?

Most of our moves cost $2,000 to $15,000. The price depends on home size, distance, permits and pilot cars, site access and how much setup you need. Your quote is free.

Do you move mobile homes in Boise?

Yes. We move manufactured homes around Boise, Meridian, Nampa and Caldwell, and across all of Idaho.

Can you move my home into or out of Idaho?

Yes. We move homes between Idaho and Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and beyond, and we get the permits for every state on the route.
