Know the rules

Utah Rules for Moving a Mobile Home

Four Utah requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

TC-138 tax clearance

According to UDOT, a home moving from a Utah county needs a TC-138 from that county’s assessor, shown before or with the permit application. No oversize permit is issued without it, and the TC-138 must be fixed to the rear of the home, with proof carried inside.

UDOT oversize permit

The same UDOT rules set legal width at 8 feet 6 inches and count the eaves toward width. Homes wider than that, or longer than 45 feet (65 feet with the tow vehicle), need an oversize permit. We get it.

Equipment for wide homes

Under Utah Admin. Code R909-2-27, homes from 14 feet 6 inches up to 16 feet wide can be permitted with working trailer brakes, two safety chains and covered open sides, towed by a truck with at least a 120-inch wheelbase and four rear tires. Homes over 12 feet wide need brakes on at least two axles. Our equipment meets these rules.

DOPL licensing

Utah’s Division of Professional Licensing regulates factory built housing contractors and dealers, including continuing education and dealer bonds. We hold a DOPL license. Your city or county building department handles the local setup permit and inspection.

Utah paperwork

Who Does What in a Utah Move

In Utah, the move starts at the county assessor’s office. Here’s the split.

1. Pay the taxes

Settle the property taxes on the home with your county.

2. TC-138

Get the TC-138 tax clearance from the assessor in the county the home is leaving.

3. We get the UDOT permit

With the TC-138 in hand, we get the oversize permit and plan the route.

4. Licensed setup

We set the home, ready for your local building inspection.

FAQ

Ogden and Utah Mobile Home Moving FAQs

Do you move mobile homes in Ogden?

Yes. We move homes in and around Ogden, Roy, Layton, Clearfield and Brigham City, and from Ogden to anywhere in Utah or out of state.

What is a TC-138, and who gets it?

It’s the tax clearance issued by the assessor in the county the home is leaving. UDOT won’t issue an oversize permit without it, and it must be fixed to the rear of the home during the move.

Do I need a permit to move a mobile home in Utah?

Yes, if the home is wider than 8 feet 6 inches (eaves included) or longer than 45 feet. We get the UDOT oversize permit once your TC-138 is ready.

How wide a home can be moved in Utah?

Homes up to 16 feet wide, wall to wall, can be permitted. Homes over 14 feet 6 inches need working trailer brakes, safety chains, covered open sides and a heavy-duty tow truck.

Who can set up a manufactured home in Utah?

Utah’s Division of Professional Licensing licenses factory built housing contractors. Our crew holds a DOPL license, and your local building department inspects the setup.

How much does it cost to move a mobile home in Utah?

Most of our moves cost $2,000 to $15,000. The price depends on home size, distance, permits and escorts, site access and how much setup you need. Your quote is free.

How long does it take to move a mobile home in Utah?

Most single-wides move within a day once the TC-138 and permit are ready. Double-wides and long hauls take longer. Setup usually adds a few days.

Can you move my home into or out of Utah?

Yes. We move homes between Utah and Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and beyond, and we get the permits for every state on the route.
