Know the rules
Wyoming Rules for Moving a Mobile Home
Four Wyoming requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.
Taxes and title before the permit
Under W.S. 31-2-508, the owner shows the title to the county treasurer and pays the current year’s taxes. The treasurer issues a receipt, and only with that receipt can the over-width permit be issued.
HUD licensed installer
Wyoming uses HUD’s federal installation program. Under 24 CFR Part 3286, Subpart C, installers complete 12 hours of training, pass an exam, carry insurance and a bond, and certify each installation. Our installers are licensed.
Daylight moves and escorts
Under WYDOT Chapter 5, Section 8, oversize moves run in daylight when conditions are good. Loads 14 feet or wider need two escorts on two-lane roads, and loads 15 feet or wider need a rear escort on interstates and divided highways.
Wind, winter and holidays
Under Section 7, mobile homes can’t travel in strong winds or when high-profile vehicle closures, chain law or “no unnecessary travel” is in effect. Escorted moves also stop over the major holidays.

Do I have to pay taxes before moving a mobile home in Wyoming?
Yes. You show the title to the county treasurer and pay the current year’s taxes. The treasurer’s receipt is what lets the over-width permit be issued.
Who gets the moving permit in Wyoming?
We do. Once you have the treasurer’s receipt, we get the over-width permit and book the escorts the route needs.
Who can install a mobile home in Wyoming?
Wyoming uses HUD’s federal installation program, so new homes are set by HUD licensed installers who certify each installation. Our installers are licensed.
When does a mobile home need an escort in Wyoming?
Loads 14 feet or wider need two escorts on two-lane roads, and loads 15 feet or wider need a rear escort on interstates and divided highways.
Can wind stop a mobile home move in Wyoming?
Yes. Mobile homes can’t travel in strong winds or during high-profile vehicle closures, chain law or “no unnecessary travel” restrictions. We plan the day around the forecast.
