Know the rules

Iowa Rules for Moving a Mobile Home

Four Iowa requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.

Tax clearance statement

Under Iowa Code § 435.24, a tax clearance statement from the treasurer of the county where the home sits is needed before it’s moved. It shows taxes are paid for past years and the current period, and it’s issued in the owner’s name.

Report the new site

The same law requires the owner to give the county treasurer the home’s new address, township and school district when it moves. Moving to another county? The treasurer forwards the clearance there.

Certified installer

Under 481 IAC 325.2, at least one certified manufactured housing installer must be on site and supervising the installation. Owners can set up their own primary residence, but the work still has to be inspected and certified. Our installers are certified.

Iowa DOT oversize permit

Under 761 IAC 511.7, mobile homes can move on Iowa DOT oversize permits up to 16 feet wide. Wider homes come with route limits, and the widest need trip routes from the DOT’s Motor Vehicle Division. We get the permit.

2. Tax clearance
