Know the rules
Colorado Rules for Moving a Mobile Home
Four Colorado requirements shape every move. Here’s what they are and who handles each one.
Registered installer
Under C.R.S. § 24-32-3315, anyone installing a manufactured home in Colorado must first register with the Division of Housing and file a bond or similar security. If a homeowner hires someone for installation work, that person must be registered. We’re registered.
Inspection and insignia
According to the Colorado Division of Housing, the installer posts an Installation Authorization form on the home and schedules an inspection with the Division, an approved inspector or, in participating areas, the local building department. Every home installed in Colorado must carry a certificate of installation insignia.
Taxes and transport permit
According to the Colorado Division of Property Taxation, the owner of a titled home must prepay property taxes and notify the county assessor and treasurer before moving. The county issues an Authentication of Paid Ad Valorem Taxes and an orange transport placard displayed on the rear of the home. Within 20 days of the move, the new county must be told the home’s new location.
CDOT excess size permit
Moves on state highways also need an excess size transport permit from the Colorado Department of Transportation. We get it and plan the route around mountain grades and the weather.
Colorado paperwork
Who Does What in a Colorado Move
In Colorado, the move starts at the county office. Here’s the split.
1. Prepay the taxes
Prepay the property taxes and notify the county assessor and treasurer of the move.
2. Authentication and placard
Get the tax authentication and orange transport placard from the county. We display the placard during the move.
3. We get the road permits
The CDOT excess size permit and any escorts for the route.
4. Setup and new-county notice
We install the home for inspection and the insignia. You tell the new county about the home within 20 days.
